Berry Recruitment in Cannock has won a major contract with automotive industry giant Gestamp to supply hundreds of workers at its factory in the town. It is great news for employment in the whole area as it signals continued investment by the Spanish-owned car parts manufacturer. The new business could add £7m annual turnover to the recruitment consultancy which is part of the national chain Berry Recruitment Group (BRG).
Berry’s consultants are already based at Gestamp’s factory and supplying up to 350 temporary staff in a number of roles. Gestamp employs around 700 workers directly and Berry is overseeing the supply of various temporary staff, which include general operators, engineers, press technicians, fork lift drivers and welders. Berry beat off numerous other agencies to win the three-year contract and Matt Breakwell, Regional Sales Director, was delighted with the result.
He said: “It is a huge contract for us but one that we are already successfully fulfilling. I have lived in Cannock all my life and have worked in recruitment since 2001. Our extensive experience in the area meant we were confident we could do the work better than anyone else.
“We have a great on-site team and there are five of us now based at Gestamp. The factory makes parts for BMW, Jaguar Land Rover and Toyota amongst others and has an excellent reputation. We expect recruitment requirements to remain high and would be delighted to hear from potential candidates.”
Mark Pearson, Gestamp HR manager, said: “We required a recruitment partner who were passionate about their business and could manage a large contract such as ours. After a detailed tender and presentation exercise involving numerous agencies Berry Recruitment were able to demonstrate that they best met our needs. They have already begun their work and we are happy with the quality of service they are providing so far.
“Our Cannock factory is a large employer locally and the staff at Berry know the area as well as the industry. We hope to have a longstanding and successful relationship with Berry.”
The contract is not the first won by Berry Recruitment Group to supply workers to Gestamp. Previously, Wild Recruitment in Portsmouth – also part of BRG – won a major contract to supply staff at Gestamp’s Fareham operation, which they continue to supply.
