Berry Recruitment are NOW hiring for a committed and experienced Assistant Buyer to work for a Market leading organisation in Wallingford, Oxfordshire


Role: Assistant Buyer


Location: Wallingford, Oxfordshire


Holiday Entitlement: 25 Days Annual Leave


Hours: Monday – Friday - 08:00 - 16:30


Key Responsibilities of the Assistant Buyer:



  • Sourcing and placement of orders for contract and non-contract items. Using appropriate MRP reports and manual requisitions.

  • Negotiation lower pricing whenever possible.

  • Maintenance of Supplier details on the MRP system and review of supplier performance.

  • Responsible for monitoring supplier performance and developing improvement programmes.

  • Maintenance of minimum stock levels against MRP requirements.

  • Adjust component MRP parameters to achieve on-time availability and appropriate batch sizes.

  • Progress chasing outstanding POs in liaison with Production Control.

  • Assist Stores personnel when required including stocktaking etc.

  • Assist Production Control when required to progress work through the factory.

  • To carry out such tasks and duties as may be required from time to time by Senior Management



About you:



  • A qualification in Purchasing (CIPS) would be useful but not essential – can offer opportunity to commence or continue CIPS qualifications.

  • 3 years’ experience using MRP/ERP/SAP or similar competently placing and reviewing Purchase Orders and updating parts and supplier/customer data.

  • Experienced in supplier or customer management.

  • Use of MS Office Suite, including Excel, Word & Outlook

  • Experience of working in a manufacturing/ engineering environment would be preferred.

  • Possess a good level of Maths and English – Preferably 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths and English

  • Demonstrate a professional and entrepreneurial attitude to purchasing.

  • Possess excellent communication and assertiveness skills.

  • Flexible and reliable

  • Self-motivated and able to multi-task

  • Demonstrate the ability to work under pressure to meet multiple project deadlines.
